This brief presentation gives a snapshot of the Act. It provides participants with a general appreciation of the scope and intent of the legislation.

Understanding discrimination law
four hours
This course gives an overview of the law in Queensland and identifies rights and responsibilities under the Act. It has been designed to allow for questions and discussion, and no previous knowledge is needed.
Course content grounds of discrimination | vilification | sexual harassment | workplace harassment | the role of the Commission | complaint handling | exemptions | vicarious liability and reasonable steps.

Tracking Your Rights (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education session)
two hours
This course introduces the Tracking Your Rights information resource and informs participants about their rights and protection under the Act. It is recommended for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and agencies, community workers and other people who give advice to the community.
Course content grounds of discrimination | what you can do about sexual harassment, discrimination and racial abuse | discrimination at work, school, hospitals, when accessing goods and services and the justice system| how to make a complaint to the Commission.

Introduction to the Anti-Discrimination Act for managers
four hours
This course will provide managers and supervisors with an understanding of the objectives of the Queensland Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 and of their responsibilities under the Act, particularly in relation to vicarious liability. The course aims to assist organisations in creating discrimination and harassment free workplaces. Recommended for human resource practitioners, managers and supervisors.
Course content coverage of anti-discrimination law in relation to the workplace | ADCQ complaints process | sexual harassment | recruitment issues | vicarious liability and the 'reasonable steps' defence | policies, training and complaints procedures.

Managing complaints in the workplace
six hours
This course offers the chance to consider and discuss the best way for complaints to be managed in the workplace. It is recommended for human resource practitioners and staff who may be involved in the complaint management process.
Course content the principles of natural justice and procedural fairness | collection and analysis of information | decision making in relation to complaints | finalising a complaint and documentation | case study discussion.

Contact officer
seven hours
This course provides information about the role of the contact officer in the workplace. It uses case studies to identify issues commonly encountered in the role. We recommend that participants are familiar with their organisation's policies and procedures.
Course content quick review of discrimination law | impact of discrimination and harassment | role of the contact officer | options for dealing with complaints | case scenario discussion | record keeping | vicarious liability, duty of care, confidentiality | quality control issues.

Contact officer: refresher
four hours
This course has been designed specifically for current contact officers, to help address the challenges that have come up during the job and to build on skills needed in the role. We also strongly recommend that participants have previously completed the full day Contact Officer course.
