Introduction to the Anti-Discrimination Act
half day
This course gives an overview of the law in Queensland. No previous knowledge is needed, and the session has been designed to allow for questions and discussion.
Session content grounds of discrimination | vilification | vicarious liability | sexual harassment | workplace harassment | an update on recent changes to the law as well as the role of the Commission | complaint handling | exemptions | vicarious liability and reasonable steps

Fairness – Everyone’s Business (Train the trainer session)
full day
This course shows participants how to get the best out of their Fairness – Everyone’s Business training package. It provides participants with the skills to run a session in the workplace on discrimination issues and is recommended for workplace trainers and human resource practitioners.
The Fairness package, produced by the ADCQ is available for purchase for $547.00* (incl GST) and contains everything you need for a two hour session, including a PowerPoint presentation, visual scenarios, activities, tips for trainers, handouts and a comprehensive trainer's guide. Some knowledge of discrimination law is an advantage, but not essential.

Contact Officer: Introductory
(half day)
This course provides information about the role of the contact officer in the workplace, and is suitable for prospective and current contact officers, human resource staff, and occupational health and safety officers. Completion of the Introduction to the Act course is recommended.

Contact Officer: Advanced
(half day)
This course is for contact officers, policy officers and human resource managers. We also recommend that you've attended the introductory course, and that you're familiar with your organisation's policies and procedures.
Session content review of the contact officer role and options for complainants | record-keeping | vicarious liability, duty of care, confidentiality | best practice in the investigation process and possible outcomes | quality control (selection/training) | case study | experiential learning exercises

Contact Officer: Refresher
(half day)
This course has been designed specifically for current Contact Officers, to help address the challenges that have come up during the job and to build on skills needed in the role. The course includes discussion of recent developments in discrimination law, and is recommended for current Contact Officers. We also strongly recommend that you have done the introductory and advanced Contact Officer courses.

Investigating Complaints under the Anti-Discrimination Act
half day

This course offers the chance to consider and discuss the best way for complaints to be investigated in your workplace. It is recommended for human resource practitioners and complaint investigators. The session will not accredit you as an investigator.

Session content the principles of natural justice and procedural fairness | the composition of complaints | components of an investigation | best practice in effective investigations | the assessment of information obtained | concluding an investigation | writing an investigation report | case study discussion

Tracking Your Rights (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education session)
2 hours
This course introduces the Tracking Your Rights information resource and informs participants about their rights and protection under the Act and is recommended for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and agencies.

Recruitment and Selection
half day
Recommended for those needing an understanding of recruitment and selection within the framework of the Queensland Anti-Discrimination Act 1991.
Course content framework of the Act | exemptions relating to employment | pre-employment testing | merit principle | duty statement, selection criteria | advertising, application forms | short listing and interviewing, requests for unnecessary information | small group activity - drawing up a job description, selection criteria, and interview questions
