Advisory Committees

Several committees have met this year to discuss issues of concern/importance/interest to the sector and the Commission.

The Disability Advisory Committee met in February and set two priorities for work this year - involvement in the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission Inquiry into Employment and Disability, and continued work on the Access to Buildings Standard, which is currently in draft form.

The Youth Advisory Committee convened in April with a wide representation of agencies. Dr Lesley Clark, Chair of the Legal, Constitutional and Administrative Review Committee (LCARC) and two Members of Parliament, Andrew Fraser and Andrew McNamara also attended the meeting. LCARC will be conducting an Inquiry into Youth Participation in Queensland Democratic Processes, and was keen to listen to the views of committee members on the issue.

Members of the lgbti (lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transgender and intersex) Advisory Committee met in April. Again, there was a good turn-up and some energetic discussion on a range of issues.

Meetings are planned in May and June for the Unions Advisory Committee and the Advocates Advisory Committee.
