ADCQ road show takes services to regional Queensland

In an effort to spread the anti-discrimination and human rights message to regional Queensland, staff of the Anti-Discrimination Commission Queensland will be visiting the town of Warwick on 11 and 12 November 2010.

'Issues of sexual harassment and discrimination are not confined to major cities and metropolitan areas' said Acting Commissioner Neroli Holmes. 'However, regional people can often miss out on the same level of information and service delivery as those living in city areas. We recognise this and as well as providing regular services from our regional offices based in Rockhampton, Townsville and Cairns, we are making efforts to more frequently take our services to the people of regional Queensland'.

The ADCQ Warwick Road Show will cater to a variety of audiences, with targeted information sessions scheduled for community organisations, general community members, business and government workers and members of the A&TSI community. A business breakfast will be hosted by ADCQ Acting Deputy Commissioner Anne Andersen where she will speak on the issues of sexual harassment and discrimination in the workplace and how employers can reduce their risk of vicarious liability.

'Warwick is the centre for many businesses and industries on the Southern Downs, and is a city within easy access of some other major regional centres. With almost 70% of the complaints accepted by the ADCQ relating to the area of work, we thought Warwick would be a good starting point for our program of regional visits in the South East Queensland area', said Ms Holmes.

For those who may not be able to attend one of the information sessions, ADCQ staff will also be holding an information stall in Rose City Shopping World where general enquiries can be made. Information brochures and complaint forms are available at this stall.

Further information and registration forms are available via the ADCQ website at www.adcq.qld.gov.au or by phoning 1300 130 670.
