Anti-Discrimination Commissioner resigns to join QCAT
Queensland Anti-Discrimination Commissioner Susan Booth spent her last day with the
Anti-Discrimination Commission Queensland (ADCQ) today, after more than 10 years with the organisation, six of which were spent in the role of Commissioner.
Susan resigned to take up a position as senior member with the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal (QCAT), which will be officially launched on 1 December, 2009.
Susan Booth said "Working as Commissioner has always been more than just another job; it has been an honour to administer the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, and a privilege to work with so many individuals and community organisations."
Neroli Holmes, previously Deputy Commissioner who has been with ADCQ for 12 years, stepped into the role of Acting Commissioner and is confident that the solid framework established during Susan's tenure will provide for seamless operations until the permanent appointment is finalised.
Neroli said, "Susan's guidance and leadership will be greatly missed at the Commission."
"While we are saddened to see the end of an era, we are also very pleased that someone with Susan's experience in anti-discrimination law and practice will be joining QCAT from its inception." she said.
Ms Holmes has acted in the role of Commissioner on multiple occasions and is well positioned to ensure the Commission continues its core function of administering the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, which promotes equality of opportunity for everyone and provides protection from unlawful discrimination, and from sexual harassment, victimisation and vilification.
Interview opportunities: Acting Commissioner Neroli Holmes - arranged by press officer.
