Discrimination Advice Clinic

Published on 19/05/2016

The Commission has joined with Legal Aid Queensland to provide a program of free legal assistance to people in Queensland seeking discrimination law advice about their complaints. Legal advice is provided by Legal Aid Queensland free of charge to people seeking guidance about their discrimination claims. Since July 2015, the clinic has helped people make informed decisions about their complaints, including suitable options for resolution.

The service is facilitated by the Commission with the clinic operating in the Commission's Brisbane meeting rooms on level 17, 53 Albert Street each Thursday from 11.00am to 4.00pm. The legal advice is provided by Legal Aid lawyers independently and confidentially. Advice is also given to clients throughout Queensland by phone. Commission staff schedule appointments for clients to meet with the Legal Aid lawyer.

The program has been popular to date, and will continue with ongoing monitoring to ensure it is meeting the needs of parties.
